As I'm sure several of you have heard, Dr. George Tiller was shot in his church this morning in Wichita, Kansas. You might have heard, but a suspect was arrested in Gardner, Kansas. The suspect might be from Merriam, Kansas.

I don't like to talk about politics. This is because my family has views one way, and my friends have views another way. I, myself, am a Moderate. Some issues I swing one way, some issues I swing the other.

I believe that abortion should be for cases of rape, or incest. A woman who is in that situation should have the right to decide if she wants to have the child.

However, I do not believe in late term abortion.

That does not mean I think the killing was a good thing. It absolutely wasn't. A person should never be murdered. There is absolutely no excuse for what the killer did. None what-so-ever.

I respect everyone's views, whether they're liberal or conservative, left-wing or right-wing. So please don't hate me for expressing mine.

My take on abortion is that it should be safe, legal, and rare (I think I got that wording from President Clinton, actually), and especially so for late term abortions. That Dr. Tiller was willing to do that -- to help people who, as they saw it, had no other options, and to make an incredibly difficult situation safe -- that I admire tremendously.

(And I could never hate you for having opinions, sweetie. If we all thought the same...the world would be incredibly boring. *hugs*)

And YES for "safe, legal, rare."

"Safe, legal, and rare" sound like good words to me. Thank you for telling me your opinion.

(And thank you, hon. *hugs*

I'm sorry I didn't get to say bye to you yesterday. Beth said, that you were looking for everyone, so I have no idea where I was. I'm glad you made it back home safely, though. Love you, imoto-chan. *hugs again*)

I certainly don't hate you for expressing your views. I disagree with you on some of the points you listed above, I agree with you on others, and we absolutely agree that there is no excuse for murder. This is more than enough agreement to go along with.

*hugs*

*hugs back*

I'm always afraid to express them, because everyone else usually has different ones. But everyone entitled to what they believe in, and if we disagree about some things, at least we agree about others.

Safe, legal, and rare probably best describes where I am myself.

And I don't agree with everything all my friends say. Some of my friends are further on the opposite end of the political spectrum. But all of my friends are intelligent, funny, creative, and fabulous--so what if they don't like my candidate, or if they have a different point of view. Then they're my intelligent, funny, creative, fabulous friends with a different point of view.

Totally and completely agree.

I'm in the 'safe, legal, rare' camp, and... kind of think that when you get to late term, it'd be better to have the kid and put it up for adoption. I'm also not going to tell someone else what they have to do with their body.
But either way... killing someone who performs abortions kind of invalidates the claim the person may have had to 'every life is sacred.'

*nodnods* That's why people saying that him getting killed is a good thing makes me a little sick.

I just want to note that, in many many cases, late term abortions are performed when women discover that there's serious risk to their own health should they carry their pregnancy to term, or that the baby has a fatal birth defect. I believe I've read statistics showing that 1) "late term abortion" is a very small percentage of overall abortions, and 2) the vast majority of those are for the reasons I mentioned before. Here (http://www.boston.com/news/globe/magazine/articles/2004/01/25/my_late_term_abortion/) is an article (heartwrenching) about a woman's experience with a late-term abortion which really made me think.

In any case, I think money and energy would be far better spent on providing knowledge and care to women so that they're able to choose when they wish to become pregnant, rather than whether or not they want to keep the baby -which is, I think, what most people mean when they say "safe, legal, and rare". It is (I firmly believe) the best possible solution.
